The sound of the Elz, constant. Light falling through the treetops. The smell of Jean-Paul's cooking drifting through the house in the evening. Chickens in the morning, the crackle of the fire at night.
The Löffelmühle is not a hotel. It is a home for a while — for adults who seek stillness, value quality, and know that the best things are often quiet.
For those who seek what is real.
Stillness, not entertainment. Flavour, not buffets. Hosts, not a reception desk.
The Löffelmühle is a retreat for adults — no room numbers, no background music, no rush. Time that is yours.
"... It is not simply a hotel — it is an experience, a place of quiet magic, the kind you rarely find any more. ..."

No room numbers.
Only retreats.
Four rooms, four stories. Each has taken shape differently — shaped by the history of the mill, by what matters to us.
Fauna, with its fireplace and views of the rocks. Aria, high among the treetops. Flora, with the soft sound of the fountain. Terra, close to the earth and the garden.
What all rooms share: a view that opens outward, the sound of the Elz, a stillness that stays. And the feeling of arriving somewhere that was meant to be exactly this.
Jean-Paul's Cuisine
Cooking as it is meant to be.
Some kitchens aim to impress. Others aim to move you. When Jean-Paul cooks, a scent drifts through the house, stirring memories. Simple ingredients, treated with care, become something more.
Much of it grows in our own garden. Some comes from neighbouring producers. Everything has its place.
No menu card. No buffet. Just a new menu each evening, shaped by what the season offers.
"... What Jean-Paul creates in the kitchen, the care and quality that go into every dish — simply wonderful. ..."

Our Arrangements
Special days. Thoughtfully composed.
Sometimes you do not want to plan. You just want to be. From a welcome glass of Crémant to a late breakfast on your final morning: we have put together arrangements that bring out the best of the Löffelmühle — Jean-Paul's menus, quiet moments, and the stillness in between.
A winter weekend, Easter in the valley, or a longer escape: days when everything has been thought of — so you can simply be.
The House. The People.
A place to stay.
The Löffelmühle has stood in the Elz valley since 1450. Water that flows. Walls that hold. A place that has welcomed many — and still does.
Jean-Paul Schmit and Roland Hein spent four years restoring the mill, bringing it back slowly, with care. Today it is their home — chickens in the garden, donkeys in the meadow, cats wandering through the rooms. They open it to guests who value what is rare.
Our Newsletter
News from the mill.
A few times a year, we write to you. What is on our minds. What is growing in the garden. What Jean-Paul is planning in the kitchen. When a special arrangement comes together, or a date opens up that had long been unavailable.
